Designed in 2001, the FA Charter Standard initiative was launched with the promise of improving grassroots football and aimed to make a difference in local communities around the country. The Charter Standard scheme currently has three levels of award - Charter Standard, Charter Standard Development and Charter Standard Community Clubs. Writtle Minors having became the first Youth Football Club in Essex and one of the first in the whole country to achieve the Charter Standard Club level upgraded its status to that of a Charter Standard Community Club in December of 2002.
