The Cooper Cup invitation match is held annually in memory of our club
founder Bob Cooper.
The current Under 13 age group invite an opposition of their choice to
take part in the match. Over the years the game has mainly been staged
at the Chelmsford City stadium in New Writtle Street, Chelmsford,
although due to the closure of the Chelmsford stadium we have used
Maldon Town Football Club.
The games are always played in a friendly manner and although extra-time
is played where required if scores remain level the honours are shared.
All players taking part receive the same trophy at the end, win - lose -
or draw.
A new trophy was introduced for the 1998 match, replacing the original
version which is now on display at the Writtle Sports and Social Club.
The Writtle side went on to win the trophy ending a barren spell for the
Minors. Past
