Youth Development Section

A young player's first introduction to football at Writtle Minors can come through our free sessions that we run for the U5 age groups in the last few weeks of the U5 season.

These are fun free sessions to simply give players a taste of training and allow them to decide if they want to join our U6 age group when we return from the summer break.

At U6 we build up a squad of players who all train together on Saturday mornings at Paradise Road or on the artificial surface at Westlands Primary school.

For the U7 season we continue to train as a single group but also split the players into teams to play 5 a side football at football festival events organised by the Brentwood Community Alliance.

Players continue into the U8 season where we play a mix of one to one games with other clubs and football festivals again through the Brentwood Community Alliance.

Towards the end of the U8 season, we assess how many players we have and create up to 3 mini soccer seven a side teams who then play mini soccer at U9s.

Young people must be 5 years old before they can be accepted into the YDS and annual intake usually consists of mainly 5 and 6 year olds.

Intake to the YDS commences on the first Saturday in September each year to an overall maximum of 30 per age group.

The YDS coaching sessions take place every Saturday morning 9am to 10:20am weather permitting.  Training takes place primarily at our Paradise Road ground but the YDS also trains on the superb synthetic "premiership quality" surface at Westland's school for part of the winter.

The aims of the Youth Development Section are to give young players the opportunity to learn and develop basic skills and techniques, enjoy small sided games, become good sportspersons and most of all, have fun!

Objectives are to enable young people to attain and develop a knowledge of basic skills and techniques and enjoy being able to demonstrate and use their learned abilities, to give them confidence to progress and participate, if they wish, into 5 a side football festivals at U7 and U8 age groups and into the world of Mini-Soccer at the Under 9's level, and be able from thereon to take an enjoyable part in Football at whatever level they play.

If your son or daughter is interested in joining our YDS section, please contact our Youth Development Officer Guy Cumpstey on 07590 849023 and we can tell you if we have spare places available and where we are currently training.
